Dear Television Writers and Producers: Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of television and that I particularly enjoy the pervasive one-hour episodic drama genre. Cop and lawyer shows are my absolute favorite, despite the fact that they often present embellishments and minor procedural inaccuracies. One of the only things that [...] On first listen, this album might sound cheesy to some, but you can hear a level of confidence that refuses to be ignored. You can almost hear the band members saying, “Yeah, what we’re doing is different… weird even. Deal with it.” I’m well overdue in posting one of these. Check this band out if you like good chick rock. Think Veruca Salt meets Hawthorne Heights. Best. Industrial. Album. Ever. Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating. Best I’ve heard this week, anyway. If you’re a fan of Showtime’s adult series “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” (or even if you aren’t), you may be interested to know that the real-life anonymous author of the blog and book that inspired the series went public earlier this week. The first single, “Halfway Gone,” released in late October. Hopefully this means that we’re getting close. I can’t help myself. Creatively mixed metaphors and double entendres set to ridiculously bright, casio-style accompaniment always makes me smile. Isn’t that the point? Proven (yet again): the middle east is the place to go for decent electronic music. Israeli duo “Infected Mushroom” easily demonstrates that techno music doesn’t have to be comprised of cheesy or boring repetitive loops. It can be deep, intricate, interesting and even challenging. I’ve been a huge fan for nearly a decade, ever since [...] No matter how bad your life seems, these guys can make you feel better. With lyrics about self loathing, alcohol abuse, suicide, my-daddy-never-loved-me issues, and my-ex-girlfriend-cut-out-my-heart-fried-it-up-in-a-pan-ate-it-puked-it-onto-the-floor-and-jumped-up-and-down-on-top-of-it goodness. |
